Michele Ann's Story
Life
Life is great right now! I have achieved my goal of being a mommy. My daughter was born in October of 2003. Right now I am spending time with her but plan to return to FAU in the Fall of 2005. I have been married to Craig Retter c/o 1993 since August of 2000 and currently live in SW Broward.
School
Right after High School I entered BCC on a Music Scholarship for Performance. I spent 1.5 years working on a degree in Music and decided it wasn't the path I really wanted. Though I loved music, I couldn't see myself performing for a career. I continued at BCC taking general courses and then started taking Computer Courses for Information Management. I finished my AA from BCC in 1998 (general degree). I then started Business Management/Computer Management courses at FAU. I did that for one year (while performing with the Broward Symphony Orchestra and FAU Orchestra) until a teacher totally turned me off to Business as a career. I got married in 2000 and took a year off to decide what I really wanted ...Expand for more
to do. I've always wanted to teach and decided that I should just go and do it. The job of teaching I know is difficult and often unrewarding, but it will give me more time with my children and family. That's more important to me than the income figure.
College
I am currently at Florida Atlantic University studying to finish my BA in Secondary Education and Curriculum in Social Sciences so that I can get my Masters started soon after. I plan to follow through to my doctorate.
Workplace
I work as a personal assistant to a Fort Lauderdale Realtor with Coldwell Banker. I've been in the real estate scene since 1996. It is a nice job for now while I am raising my daughter. I bring my daughter to work the three days a week that I do work. However, I do not plan to stay here. It's nice that I can bring her to work with me and that my boss is flexible, but taking care of K and working at the same time is stressful. When it's time for baby #2, I will then become a stay at home mom for at least 4 years.
